Dear Non-Malayali friends, Please listen, take a couple of minutes and read.
We are in need of HELP.
Kerala is reeling from one of its worst flooding disasters in its history.
The death toll rises to 324 and Nearly 2,54,432 people were shifted to 1600+ rehabilitation camps. Thousands of people left their hard earned properties and took refuge at safer places with their relatives
Red Alert sounded in all 14 districts of the state, Hilly districts Wayanad and Idukky have been cut-off from the rest of the state due to landslides on the ghat roads .
Shutters of 76 Dams (of 82)have been opened, including that of Mullapperiyar, of which the control is wrested with the TN Government.
44Rivers (out of 44) are overflowing well past the red mark. Cochin International Airport has been closed till 2 PM, 18 November as the runway has been engulfed.
Your favorite summer destination, the lush green Munnar has been submerged. KSRTC and Railway have cancelled many of the bus and train services.
Thousands of houses and establishments across the state have been submerged already. Roads and bridges are either broken or swallowed up by the flood water.
The entire system is fighting back under the efficient leadership of our Chief Minister. Keeping all differences aside, the congress lead opposition is working in complete harmony with the Government which is a rare expression of the true spirit of democracy and good governance.
We salute all the kind hearted people who extended love and support. Vishnu, a migrant worker from Maharashtra making a living by selling blankets in Kerala, walked into a relief camp and handed over all the fifty blankets he had. We bow our head and salute him.
Film star Kamal Hassan contributed 25 lakhs to Chief Minister's relief fund. Tamil actors Karthi and Soorya donated 25 lakhs and Vijay TV also promised an amount of 25 lakhs. These are only a few names from the list of many who promised a hand to Kerala.
So far, the loss is estimated as 20,000 Cr (till yesterday) and the state requested the centre to sanction 2,000 Cr as an immediate relief. But the centre offered just 500 Cr in response to this request.
